“I know a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body I cannot tell; or whether out of the body I cannot tell; God knoweth) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell; God [...]

“Having to leave the divine condition and come back to the sensory or resurrected state can only be described as GOD-AWFUL; it is an inhuman predicament, even an inhuman feat….In contrast to the divine, the human condition is so terrible and devastating that even the worst of descriptions could never do it justice. I am [...]

Thank you for your comments, Amy…I couldn’t agree more. This is the notion I hope to develop in the second part of this piece. There’s a beautiful statement from Julian of Norwich, which I will give in full next time. It goes: “…our nature is in God whole: in which He maketh diversities flowing out [...]

Hi Seth,
I’m also hoping to use the word “eschatological” at some point in this piece! While slogging through the theology of Karl Rahner, I’m reminded of a remark made by C.S. Lewis: “If you can’t understand books written by grown-ups, you shouldn’t talk about them.” Here’s to “growing up”.

It’s good to see you back at it, Gregory. Your presence has been missed! Quite recently I have been pondering the nature of faith. Some say it is the most mystical non-experience we can “experience”. In faith, God is present to us as the Absolute and therefore, incomprehensible.

I wonder which is of more value; to be saved from the ignorance of another’s incorrect view, or to be saved from the arrogance of my own correct view?

Hi Seth, “As always, however, I go back to the question, “Do I want this to happen to me?” It’s a little scary…. of course you could ask Christ if he recommends being crucified.” It seems that very few of us are given this particular cross. I guess the rest of us have to travel [...]

Here’s a great article by Bro. David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk. He is a contemplative, obviously, but he is also considered to be a contemporary Christian mystic. In this article he talks about “being a mystic”, mystical or “peak” experience, mindfulness, paradox and duality. There should certainly be something for everyone in this article! Enjoy, [...]

I can’t remember where the title of this topic came from….”What Is The Calling of God?” But here’s a poignant little story you all might like. Last Saturday I was doing a little grocery shopping. As happens quite often a homeless guy hit me up for a couple of dollars in the parking lot. He [...]

Hi David, We are all full of crap. We just differ by degree. If you have an eighth that seems worthwhile, that’s a lot better than my sixty fourth! But, you know what they say…”where there is crap, wisdom is not far off”. Actually, I made that up myself. I think the spiritual journey is [...]

Hello again, Hermit I’m glad we are able to have this dialogue. One of the reasons I have discussed her work on this particular site is that I have hoped others would find the same importance in her experiences and disclosures. There is a rather limited audience here, but we seem to have found one [...]
