Lately I have been reading a lot about mystery and how we mortal beings really like to know. We don’t like being kept in the “dark” as it were. John Shea has an interesting view on such things. In his book Story of God he quotes Kazantzakis’s description of mystery, which calls it the luminous interval between [...] -
I like words. But words hold no real power by themselves. Perhaps that is why Jesus never left us anything in writing. He knew that somehow, we would get stuck on the words, and miss the message. Antonin Gilbert Sertillanges writes How did the Savior proceed in his preaching? He offers no text, no system, and [...]

I love your comment on unity and wholeness as opposed to non-dualism (as Chuck mentions). I am reminded of Paul imaging our relationship with Christ as a body. Each part, whether it be veins, digits, organs, all make us whole. We only speak of them in parts in order to understand. Perhaps in the spiritual [...]

I had a thought today, and wonder if this has been discussed at some point here on this site (http://monasticponderings.blogspot.com/2012/05/god-does-not-test-us.html)? It has to do with the concept of God and testing.

Thanks, Chuck. I was not aware of this. I appreciate knowing the history behind this site. It shows how closely knit the group is. Any other history you would like to share would also be appreciated!

I like the quote from Wilkins that suggests we can help miracles happen if we turn our energy toward our dreams instead of putting them into fear. http://monasticponderings.blogspot.com/2012/05/giving-energy-to-our-dreams.html. I wonder how many miracles I have missed because I was too afraid, too timid, to unwilling to walk through the shroud of doubt and into a bold faith. Not a faith that says, ”everything will turn out all right” but a faith that says, ”I can get through this, because I am not alone.” A faith that says, ”It is okay for things not to be right, life does not consists of things going my way.” or ”Darkness is not bad unless I sit down and stay.”

I have been thinking about prayer, God, and times when prayer goes unanswered. And I reflected back on my own life…http://monasticponderings.blogspot.com/2012/05/when-prayers-fall-on-deaf-ears.html

Sat with a friend yesterday who was in deep anguish. Studies, another move, homesickness, feeling the pain of divorce, all converged to bring such pain into her heart and soul. As we talked, I realized there was nothing I could say that would elevate her anguish even a little. The mystery of helplessness. And yet, we believe that when all is in God, nothing is lost.

Grace: Thanks. I had some profound thought on the evil of judging (and I too read scripture and wonder, how come we get it so wrong? All of Jesus best friends were sinners and “evil” people in the eyes of the righteous!) but I forget it now! I guess this is the reason we write [...]
