Radio God
Mar 20th, 2009 by Brian Robertson

I suppose it’s a small difference, but it makes quite a bit of difference.
Prayers pop out now and then, at least for me, and this morning I found myself saying, “Please be with me today, God…” and, almost at once, I realized the prayer should be from a different angle. “God, may I be with you today” came out of somewhere.
It seemed more appropriate.
There isn’t a time when God isn’t Here Now. There are times, however, when we forget that the real work comes in the form of remembering God’s Presence, of not forgetting to now and then bring ourselves back into that Presence. A radio doesn’t sit and hope for the music. The music is always in the air, but you have to tune the radio to hear it.
Blessings,
Rev. Brian

Awesome. This was just an incrediable and profound thought. Thank You
Rev. Brian, i have read your comments and many others tonight and i have to say i agree. i have done music ministry for nearly 10 years and have found that most of us “christians” cannot receive anything we have not been trained by men, to receive. i find the mystery of God much easier to comprehend than people, the world. they refuse to slow down and recognize their creator. to think beyond what they have been taught to perceive. i know my God, i recognize His presence, i long for it…the songs i write come from that place. true worship is relationship, not sound-bites on your local christian station. it’s not perfection. there is a spiritual undercurrent, an awakening, that moves through places where Jesus would go, not the modern church, not the hard-wired. how do i get my music to those that can feel it, experience it for what it is, a message, a direction….home. often, i feel alone. it is the presence of God that makes me able to deal within this shallow world….and maybe the power that flows from my fingertips isn’t a figure of my imagination, but that their are others with this touch that may understand. Sincerely in Christ, jeremy…ID.
Brian — thanks for this needed reminder. I think you’ve provided a wonderful concrete example of the difference between saving your life (“be with me”) and losing it (“may I be with You”).
I’m not sure — did you mean to reverse those two?
Brian
Hmmm… I wrote what I intended, but obviously it wasn’t as clear as I thought
.
I was referring to Jesus’ statement, “whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” What I meant to convey was that you’ve provided a concrete example of the difference between *wishing* to save your life (“be with me”) and *being willing* to lose it (“may I be with You”).
This morning I recognized a slightly different perspective on this: we should pray in order to align our desires with God’s, not the other way around. Jesus prayed “Your kingdom come” before He prayed “give us our daily bread.”
Oh! Well, that was me misreading, I suspect. Without going into detail the way it was phrased made “losing it/May I be with you” sound somehow negative while the other, then, would be positive. Your amplification is appreciated and, I think, is right on target. Thanks for the fantastic insight — evidenced also by the great comment in the last paragraph. I appreciate it, and I know readers do.
